Stone effect plaster in Los Angeles

Heavy-bodied plaster laid on thick and blocked back in courses, so the wall reads as cut or cast stone rather than as plaster imitating it.

What it is

A lime plaster with a coarse aggregate, built up in weight, then cut and blocked while it is green — the courses, the joints and the slightly varying tone from block to block are all worked in by hand. The variation is what sells it; a uniform stone effect looks like wallpaper.

Where it works

Fireplace surrounds, entry walls, columns, garden and courtyard walls, and anywhere a room wants mass. It needs a large plane — courses need room to run, and on a narrow wall the joints start to look like a pattern.

What to expect

The heaviest finish here and the slowest to lay. It adds real thickness, so trim, sockets and door casings have to be planned around it rather than after it. Sealed outdoors, usually left open indoors.

Every colour here is the studio’s own, and every swatch is drawn from its hex value rather than photographed. Screens differ, and so does the light in your room — we make sample boards on site before anything goes on a wall, and that is what the colour is decided from.
