Tadelakt bathrooms and wet rooms in Los Angeles
A Moroccan lime finish compressed with a stone and sealed with olive-oil soap. It takes water, which means a shower with no grout lines anywhere in it.
What it is
Lime plaster from Marrakech, applied thick, polished with a river stone as it sets, then washed with black soap. The soap reacts with the lime to form a water-repellent skin — the waterproofing is chemistry, not a coating.
Where it works
Showers, steam rooms, basins, splashbacks and bath surrounds. It is the reason to choose plaster in a wet room: one continuous surface, no tile, no grout to go black.
What to expect
Slow. It is polished by hand in stages and cannot be rushed, and it wants a stable substrate underneath. Re-soaping every couple of years keeps it repellent; we show you how.
